LASG, LAHA set September for Maiden Edition of Yoruba Week

Lagos State Government and the legislative arm have agreed on the choice of last week in September as Yoruba (Culture) Week.

According to a statement by the Cheif Press Secretary to the Speaker, Eromosele Ebhomele, the State Government announced the date to the 10th Assembly via its letter, following “a resolution passed by the Lagos Assembly at a sitting held on September 19, 2023.”

The letter, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, confirmed to the lawmakers that the state would start the plan ahead of the celebration.

It’s reads, “on the activation of Yoruba cultural heritage and a special day to be assigned as Yoruba day, I have the directive to officially convey Mr. Governor’s approval for the last week of September as Yoruba Week.”

In response, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, commended the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-Led Administration, describing the move “a good development.”

Obasa, who described the Yoruba culture and heritage as very important, also stressed on the need for its preservation.

The Speaker affirmed the readiness of the House to support the executive to ensure the success of the planned Yoruba Week.
